Okay, one week from today the new blog will be posted. The first day will just be a couple of introductory blogs and then the next day I'll go out and live blog from a location in New York. It's been a nice break, but I'm starting to get itchy to come back.
I'm always fearful I'll lose the whole audience I had by taking a break. The internet can be a fickle place, so I appreciate those of you that have popped back and been checking in.
And I've gotten some things in the mail and thought I'd put them up today and here they are in no special order!
Britta sent in a photo she took of something you can't find in New York City: A cigarette machine from an Irish Pub. It brings back memories of when I used to buy packs of Marlboros at a bowling alley when I was a juvenile delinquent. They cost fifty cents a pack back then, now they're up to 13 dollars a pack in New York and it's illegal to smoke almost anywhere in the city!
Gene sent in this ad from a newspaper in Baltimore: A Marty Party...and I wasn't invited! Those stinking bastards!
And proving that he really is a brainiac, Jaws sent in this piece of art entitled: "Waiting For My Next Bright Idea." Yikes!
And last, but certainly not least, Gidget sent in this picture of a new Gumby product. Hmmm...I guess they thought "Pokey" was too obvious! Don't forget to listen to the "Secret Weapon" on Woody Radio, where "Boris" picks the tunes and DJ Gidget spins them!
So I’ll see you next week, looking forward to interacting with all of you again!
“Boris” and Gene both sent in photos over the weekend and here they are!
“Boris” shot this out in the woods and here’s his explanation of the shot: “I was out shooting some pics today and was taking one of this old rusted barbed wire against the snow and when I downloaded it I saw much to my surprise what could be Boxface's pet. I call this 'Tree Crushes White Cat'.” Great photo, Daddio! To see more of “Boris’” photography check out his facebook page here: Photos from “Boris.” And don’t forget to listen to “The Secret Weapon” on Woody Radio where “Boris” picks the tunes and DJ Gidget plays them and hosts the show!
MAD commenter and one third of the famed BBC crew, Gene Rubbico sent in this mystery shot and challenges the MAD audience to guess where it was taken. Here’s a little clue for you all: The walrus was Paul 1816. Any guesses out there?
And don’t forget, the new blog debuts February 1st, so please check back. I’m sure they’ll be a couple more updates here before that happens. Have a great week, everybody!
Thanks to East Village blogger and MAD commenter, Melanie for sending in this Gumby shot! He looks trashed in it! Great photo Melanie! Check out more of Melanie and her photos at her blog: "East Village Corner...Musings By Melanie."
Okay, I just wanted to post an update thanking everyone for being patient and waiting for the February 1st debut of the new blog.
The new blog still needs a little tweaking, but it's looking good and "Boris" outdid himself with the banner art!
Other big news is I've finally memorized my cell phone number! Having achieved this goal, I'm thinking of trying out for the Special Olympics, but you'll have to stay tuned for that.
Okay, just wanted to stop and say hi and see if anyone's left out there! Have a great week, keep your feet on your legs and your hands in your pockets. Stay high, let your freak flag fly and for fuck's sake, please, don't eat the daisies. Cheers and beers!
Okay, all that white space is there because Gumby has no arms and therefore can't type (the little freak!) I tried telling him this, but noooo, he had to be the big man and insist. Anyway, he failed, so now I have to do all the work!
I just wanted to put up an update about when my next blog is going to start. I'm pretty sure it'll be the first week of February. The blog itself is pretty well all set up, but there's a reason for the wait and I'll disclose it when I announce the blog. I hate to be Mr. Mysterioso, but I can't talk about it now.
I also need time to think of a bank of ideas for it, so I can start off running with some fun ideas and things to do. "Boris" outdid himself and did the best banner I've ever seen, truly genius artwork! Thanks in advance, "Boris," you hit it out of the blogosphere ball park with this one.
So, I appreciate those of you who will stick around. Whenever you take a month off from blogging, you lose some people and I really appreciate those who stay loyal and keep coming back. You're the best and I thank you!
And now, what better way to kick off a weekend than Joan Jett covering one of Alice Cooper's best songs? Happy weekend!
Okay, i wrote yesterday that there’s going to be some changes coming up here and here’s what’s happening. I really want to do a blog where I go out and live blog every day. However, this after dark format just isn’t going to work for this new style of blogging. For one thing, most people are asleep or offline when I go out at night and while it’s still fun to look at the photos the next day, I think it’s a lot more fun for the audience if they can follow me live for the most part and watch the updates unfold in real time. So “Marty After Dark” is going to be coming to a close in a few weeks and then I’ll announce the new blog. I’ll continue to post here, but it’s just going to be random stuff and videos, as I’m going to be busy putting this new blog together. It’s always challenging building a new blog, as I’m not a technology guy, so it’s like starting from scratch each time I start a new one.
It’s funny, every blog I’ve ever done has led to another chapter. I started out with The Marty Wombacher Show which morphed into A Guy Walks Into 365 Bars which in turn led to Marty After Dark. All of them have been fun adventures and I think the new idea could possibly be the most fun one of them all.
I want to thank everyone who reads this blog from the bottom of my heart! I really can’t tell you how much it means to me to know that people take time out of their day to come here and I hope you all follow me into my next blog adventure. I’ll be announcing it in a couple weeks right here, so continue to check back when you can. As I said, there’s still going to be some random silliness every day until the announcement, which I’m thinking will be in about two weeks.

P.S. If you’re not on my mailing list and would like to updated via email when the new blog goes up, please send me your email address and I’ll add it to the list. And now, it’s off to work building the new blog!
Happy New Year’s Day to all of you! I’m taking the night off since it’s a holiday. Tomorrow I have an announcement here about some changes that are going to be happening here. So check back for that if you want to, in the meantime, here’s hoping for a great 2012 for all of us!

Bonus Photos by Gene Rubbico!
Gene and Smoopy were out on the town in the BBC’s hometown of Baltimore last night celebrating New Year’s Eve and he sent in some photos of the fireworks there last night. Great photos, Gene, thanks for sending them in!
Happy New Year everybody! Thanks so much for your friendship and for reading and supporting this blog all year. I hope everybody has a great 2012! Cheers and the best to all of you!
