Alright, it’s Tuesday, so that means it’s my night to go out in search of a swizzle stick. I have to admit, tonight is going to be a sure thing and I cheated a little without even knowing it. I remembered the surf bar, Réunion, that I visited on my 365 bar crawl last year. I went to their website and was just looking around and I stumbled upon this:
A sugarcane swizzle stick! Sounds good to me, surf’s up!

And here we are, it hasn't change a bit in a year since I first visited.

The red surfboard points the way down the stairs...

Wow, the bar is crowded for a Tuesday night. I see a seat at the end of the bar, so that's my destination.

And friendly bartender Topher delivers a freshly made Mermaid drink.

It looks delicious, and we have a swizzle stick!

A sugarcane swizzle stick. I don't think I'll add this to the collection though. It might make things a bit too sticky.

A view from my perch at the bar. Light bulbs hang overhead and colored lights are strewn here and there to give this place a colorful and fun feeling.

A shot of the well=stocked bar.

Surf Hell's Kitchen.

And speaking of surfing, some of the Happy Hour specials are plastered on this surfboard in the middle of the bar.

My second drink was a cocktail called, Papelon, which Topher suggested and it was fantastic and also came with a sugarcane swizzle stick. Two for two!

A surfing photo book on a shelf lit up by a candle hangs on a wall near the bar.

There's surf movies on the TV in here on the wall opposite the bar.

Cowabunga!

Anita and Adam were seated next to me at the bar and we had a nice chat about the internet and my 365 bars blog.

And suddenly...Surf's Up! Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark.

qcumber sent me a link to a video of Nico singing “Chelsea Girls” at the Chelsea Hotel. It’s a cool video and here it is, thanks, qcumber!

Thank God you didn't get a frozen Corona here --- like you did last year !!

(Somewhat related)
I watched the beginning of the new Hawaii 5-0 to see how they updated the Ventures' theme. My face went from
●▂● (not sure what they would do)
to
●﹏● (realizing it was pretty much the same theme albeit with a watered down drum and horn section)

As Jimi said, "You'll never hear surf music again."

Surf clips today were great. Brian Wilson's dad, Murray, was very dominating and tried to control the group totally until he was finally fired. Jan and Dean had great songs with Brian writing most. Nico was always a troubled singer with a great voice but heroin ruined her life,,,if those walls at the Chelsea could talk,,,right?

Mmm...does Topher deliver? ;)

@Mike Hunt: That's a great clip! I had never seen it, thanks for posting the link!

@GENE: Ha! Actually the frozen Corona was pretty good, but these two drinks were better!

@csp: Jimi Hendrix said that at Monterey Pop Festival. The Beach Boys were scheduled to play and pulled out at the last minute and a lot of people think if they would've played it would've gotten rid of their surfer band curse in the '60's. Your icons look like CBBM...aaahhhh!

@Al: Murry was nuts, in Brian Wilson's autobiography he tells a story about Murry making him shit on a plate for a punishment! And yeah, I'd love to hear those Chelsea walls talk!

@Goggla: Ha ha ha! I told Topher my female readers would enjoy his photos!

@MAD: I have been CBBM assimilated, resistance was futile. Jimi also snuck that line into "Third Stone From the Sun". I didn't realize where it had originated, Monterey seems to be quite the confluence of rock mythos.

@Googla: Hopefully Topher gets enough tips to save up and buy the rest of his name.

Dick Dale remains the King!

@csp: It was Monterey, it was his jab against the Beach Boys. He had fun, fun, fun while saying it too.

@Meleah: I'll have to take your word on that, I've never watched Sex in the City.

@"Boris": I hear you Daddio! To the King!

@Gidget: You met Dick Dale? Very cool, how'd you meet him, inquiring minds want to know!

@Jaws: If you're using Firefox as your browswer, that might be part of the problem. Try Google Chrome. If you look at the comments on page 2 of yesterday's post Gene put up a link to it. Sorry you're having problems! I appreciate you going the extra mile!

skydiving while pregnant didnt seem fun.

he was cute for an old dude...

@Gidge: That is a clever dating strategy. If anyone accused Mr. Dale of his love life being in free-fall, he could answer, "Ideally."

@Gidget: Cool story!
