TAKING THE DAY OFF!

I went to PKNY last night and had a couple of tiki drinks as I make my way though the menu and that will be posted tomorrow. Today I'm taking a day off though, I have some personal stuff to sort through, nothing crazy, just need a day off. I'll be back tomorrow. Till then, MAD commenter and one third of the BBC, Gene Rubbico sent in these photos of cigarette machines in bars. Enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow...after dark!

Another old time cigarette machine, from Little Havana in Federal Hill, MD.

It's about time you got a day off.
Hell, you had 365 in a row "working" doing the crawl last year.
MAD gives you that opportunity.
Nurse, start the Mountain Dew IV.

@Boris and M.A.D.; Do you remember when Mountain Dew first came out during the sixties? Their logo/commercial was a little cartoon hillbilly with a little brown jug full of Mountain Dew, and the little cartoon hillbilly would take a swig and yell; "Yaaaaahoo! Mountain Dew!" As I remember, a coalition of Apalachain Mountain dwellers (real life hillbillies in other words) complained that the ad was defaming them and said cancle the add or they'd sue...either that or they'd sick their dawg on them or something if they did not cease and desist. Mountain Dew got rid of the cartoon hillbilly shortly afterward, it was on the news back then. A fun bit of Mountain Dew trivia! Wonder if either of you remember that?

Jaws when Mountain dew did the throwback they reissued those cans with the hillbillies.. I spent many a wired on dew day in the last year off pure sugar and caffien for that little hillbilly!

@Jaws: I remember that mountain dew commercial and I wish I could find it. The one I'm looking for is the old Coffee Mate commercial with the guy staying at a friends cabin,,,,"Coffee Mate huh,,,I'm gonna remember coffee mate". @MAD: Rest up and remember why your friend Al only drinks Scotch,,,,I learned about those sugary drinks like the ones at Pain Killer,,,,they are delicious but deadly.

@Gidgie and Al; Haw! All I know is that Mountain Dew is a huge hit here in trailer park country...maybe they ought to get Earl Hickey (my name is Earl) as a spokesman...he's a great example of what modern hillbillys are really like, and God knows...I'm completely SURROUNDED by the clones of Earl Hickey!!

Applause is made of many loud individual claps. A loud clap requires two hands. If one hand is always clapping on its own, it is both subdued and incapable of washing the other hand. When the applause has become greatly diminished and all the hands filthy, the only action to improve the applause is to cause it to cease. Thus non-action is in itself an act of renewal. I taught this to George, John, Paul, Ringo, and csp. The first four got it, the fifth was too much of an asshole. Also, I'm full of shit :)

@Everybody: Thanks for the nice comments, it really helped me out today! You are all the best, I'll be back tomorrow with Sunday night's adventure.

Marty - you or someone should do a photo-gallery of payphone booths before they all disappear. I expect them to be largely wasted and abandoned, but extra points if still in use.........

It will be said, our grandchildren will be able to speak Chinese better than they will be able to understand us......

@lzzrdgrrl: That's a great idea, although I think the payphone booth is extinct in Manhattan. I think one night I'll do one of just pay phones. They won't be around long.
