EV Grieve put up a post last week and asked everyone where they order their Chinese food from. It got a ton of comments and suggestions. I endorsed Sammy’s Noodle Shop in the West Village and a few people agreed with my suggestion. It made me realize that I haven’t been to Sammy’s in quite a while, so I thought I’d have my Sunday night dinner there.
About a half an hour before I was going to leave I got a call from my friends Goggla and Ed and they said they were in the neighborhood, so I invited them over for a beer or three and they decided to join me on my trek to Sammy's for Sunday dinner.
And so we trekked down 6th Avenue to...
Sammy's Noodle Shop! Some day I need to find out who Sammy is, but tonight I'm too hungry for investigative journalism. Let's go in and get something to eat!
Here's the front kitchen area where the takeout orders are being prepared.
Bags lined up to be filled with boxes of noodles and such.
In the front waiting area a woman teaches her infant to be a zombie texter.
And we're led into the main dining area.
This man just unlocked his noodle badge on Foursquare. So sad. #ChineseFood.
Okay time to look at the menu, by now we are all starvin's like Marvins.
We started out with some steamed dumplings that were delicious. We also got bacon wrapped shrimp, but my photo didn't turn out, so you'll just have to be like John Lennon and imagine that.
And now the main courses. I got the Sour Chili Pepper Noodle Soup. My favorite thing about ordering this is that the waitress will always warn you that this is "very spicy!" And it is, it really clears up your sinuses and it's very tasty as well.
Ed got the Won Ton Duck, as you can see the portions here are huge!
I don't know the official title of Goggla's dish, but it was pork and vegetables and very delicious. We all shared and it was a great Sunday dinner. Thanks to Goggla and Ed for hanging out on a nice and relaxing Sunday evening.
One last look out the door and we're gone. Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark.

Bonus Pumpkin!
Lex visited on Saturday and brought me a pumpkin. Here it is in MAD headquarters. I'll be featuring photos of it now and again as I decorate it for Halloween. Thanks, Lex!

Won Ton duck, that looks mouth watering. I would love to go to 456 restaurant on Mott, they originally were in Queens, the story goes that Paul Simon saw on their menu "Mother and Child Reunion", and since its a great song, I would love to go there and see what it is. Probably tastes like chicken.
Hooray for Sammy's! All that food looked delicious, but next time you should order the shrimp toast. It's kick-ass.
"Brooklyn based State Senator Carl Kruger has been lavishly utilizing his 2.1 million dollar campaign war chest according to the New York Post. Kruger, now in his 16th year of service amassed numerous suspicious charges, from a $1,685 Bill spread out over 29 trips to "Sammy's Noodle Shop"..."
Well it must be good.
Mmmm I love it!! Looks so yummy!! Sammy's looks fantastic! I want Chinese food now, more specifically Sammy's. Why must it be so far away? Tease!!
@Al: I remember reading that about "Mother and Child Reunion" too. I think it's a chicken and egg dish. I'll check that place out in the upcoming weeks. Thanks for the tip, co-pilot!
@Biff: I've never had the shrimp toast there, I'll try it next time for sure!
@csp: Ha ha ha! That guy must love Sammy's, it's around 60 bucks a trip!
@Lindsay: Try for delivery! I suggest the chili pepper soup, but have plenty of Kleenex close by, it makes your nose run like it's in a marathon.
I don't know which I would be willing to kill for first, the won ton duck OR the pork and vegies...I think I could happily scarf them both down one right after the other in one sitting!
Thanks for a great evening - Sammy's was an excellent choice! That soup burns my tonsils just looking at it. :)
@Jaws: If you could eat that much food in one sitting you're a bigger...er...I mean better man than me!
@Goggla: Great to see you and Ed last night, thanks for hanging out! And not to get too gross, but that soup burns going in and going out! Ouch!
@ MAD and Goggla: At Marty's suggestion, I ordered that soup "extra hot" once. Fire blew out of my mouth and the top of my head popped off. True story.
On a side note, is Dwight Twilley related to Meg Tilly? Because they have the same haircut.
I think I would have gone for Goggla's dish, but would have had to try you soup. I've never had a good duck experience, not my thing. Looks like a great night out with friends!
Good food & great company! Next time you're around St Marks & First try Xi'an Famous Foods - lamb & noodles - so delicious.
I HAD CHINESE LAST NIGHT!!! I had a pork dish that came out on a a cast iron sizzle plate. I looked at it and a tiny drop of hot oil splashed straight into my eye.
The chilli soup looks amazing and I'm a HUGE fan of anything with duck.
Happy trailz!
Mmmm Love the spicy soup!!
I LOVE spicy food..Yum!
Hello to Goggla and Ed and to you Marty. I have missed being here.
"In the front waiting area a woman teaches her infant to be a zombie texter."
AHhahahahhha!
You crack me up, Marty. And now I am CRAVING Chinese Food!
@Biff: "On a side note, is Dwight Twilley related to Meg Tilly? Because they have the same haircut." Ha ha ha! You still gots it, Bifferoonie!
@kari: You might like this duck dish, it's one of the best. And yes, it was a great night out, good company and good food. And beer!
@onemorefoldedsunset: I'll try that for sure, lamb and noodles sound great! Thanks for the suggestion!
@Clacky: Ouch, that sounds painful! Happy trails to you!
@Tiki Bar Susie: I've missed you being here too, glad to see you back! If you like spicy food, you would love this soup! Spiciest dish ever!
@meleah: Glad you got a laugh out of that! And I'm kind of craving Chinese food again myself after looking at this post again!
@MAD: Twenty hours later and you're hungry again? I think you're ahead of the curve.
I don't know about that soup Marty, but I know that Indian curry and Cajun food turns both ends of me into a blow torch. Talk about burning your candle at both ends....
@csp: God knows I try!
@Jaws: "Talk about burning your candle at both ends...." Ha ha ha! I felt your pain last night and this morning!
color me green w/envy...those dishes look so good...sumetimes you gotta pay the piper if you wanta dance...that's the way it is w/spicy food...looked like a great time w/ ed and goggla...hey good to see clacky and tiki bar susie postin' again...

@rr: It ain't easy being green, is it? And I agree, great to see Tiki Bar Susie and Clacky back in the comments section! Great Calvin Trillin quote!
I had a Hot Little Chinese Dish last night too!
(although I had to pay extra for the "Happy Ending")
You KNOW that Pumpkin is just ripe for a 'Boxface' carving.
Anything else just wouldn't be right.
I thoought I commented on Sammy's..chicken chow fun with Ken and Me in the window seat. See you there.
@"Boris:" Ha ha ha! I'll get working on that carving soon, Daddio!
@Melanie: I posted about Sammy's a while back, maybe the comment was back then. Sammy's rules!
