Live from New York, it’s Cheeseburger Saturday Night! Starring S’MAC and featuring the ready for prime beef player, Marty Wombacher. And now, live from the East Village of New York City, please welcome, S’MAC!

I read a post over at EV Grieve about S'MAC taking over a kiosk in the East Village and I realized I hadn't been there for a while. S'MAC is a restaurant that specializes in mac and cheese and they have a cheeseburger mac and cheese. I decided that would be a fun twist on Cheeseburger Saturday Night, so it's off to S'MAC we go. But first a beer, I'm slowly restocking the fridge and it's a little better than the other night when Clacky and Uncle Waltie were disappointed in the number of beers in my fridge.

And it's off we go, wow, it's really nice outside. I love this time of year.

Lots of people in Union Square Park.

Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox.)

Here we are!

Let's go in, i'm starvin' like Marvin over here!

There's a line, but it's moving quickly.

And before you know it, I've placed my order with the lovely Carla who serves me up a bottle of beer. The last time I was here they didn't serve beer, but now they not only have beer, but there's wine as well!

I wanted to sit in a window seat, but they were all taken, so I chose this table.

Here's the view from my perch at the table.

In keeping with the mac and cheese theme of the place, orange is the predominant color in here. Orange chairs...

Orange lights...

And an abandoned orange drink on the counter. Orange you glad we came here? Sorry about that!

And before you know it, here's Carla with the mac and cheese!

The mac and cheese is served bubbling hot, in its own metal skillet. Nice presentation and it looks and smells great!

Very cheeseburgery and delicious!

Burp.

Obligatory bathroom mirror shot! Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark.

My Meal
I had the Cheeseburger Mac and Cheese which combines seasoned ground beef with cheddar and Amercan cheeses. It was creamy, a little spicy and very delicious. Other styles of mac and cheese include: 4-Cheese, The All American, Cajun and Buffalo Chicken. You can also build your own mac and cheese with 14 kinds of cheese to choose from and you can mix in veggies, beef and poultry including: broccoli, slab bacon, hot dogs and roasted tomatoes. The mac and cheese come in four sizes depending on your appetite. They also offer side salads and cookies and brownies for dessert. And they have beer now!

I wonder how much the ingredients cost to make mac & cheese ? -- and how much profit is involved ? ... seems like a good racket to me ...

Goddamn that looks like good mac and cheese! And I loved the surprise link! LOL!

June 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBarfly

That mac and cheese looks good, though I really dislike mac and cheese and haven't had any in about 40 years but they never looked like that. I would like to say that I really enjoy the pictures you take on your way to destinations, desolate sidewalks, doors, business closed for the night,,,,the night pictures with a little danger,,,,Marty walking all alone in Manhattan, the city is his playground,,,and we are along for the ride.

Your surprise link was very unnerving, Marty. We had parakeets for pets when I was a kid, and even though they can be playful and cute, they are notorious for crapping all over everything in sight (including you if you have one perched on your finger while attempting to teach it to talk).

Love it!
Want it!
I used to hate mac and cheese
but if i make it from scratch i'm ok with it.. or those cute little stouffer ones..but they have to be in the oven.. i'm picky like that..
the girl walking in the door in white looks like she walks funny.
ok i'm hungry now
gonna go eat pie..i dont have any real food.. just pie

Oh wow. That mac and cheese looked delicious!

@GENE: The Cheeseburger Mac and Cheese I got is just $6.25 and the ingredients are all fresh, so it's not a bad deal. And it's really good!

@Barfly: Glad you liked the surprise link!

@Al: I've never met anyone who doesn't like mac and cheese! I love it, even the cheapo Kraft in the box stuff. Nice to know you're enjoying the pictures, always love to hear that!

@Jaws: I had a pet bird once too, Mr. Bard, so I know all about birds crapping!

@Gidgie: It's the best mac and cheese I've ever had, but a commenter at EV Grieve says they know of a better place, so I'll check that out soon. Enjoy your pie!

@Meleah: It's the best!

Nice twist on the cheeseburger, looks very tasty. My son is on a mac & cheese kick with just the noodles, butter and parmesan from the can. He had it for breakfast. Glad we don't have birds. To mac & cheese!

That's one tasty (Mac n') Cheeseburger!
OK, I have a confession...
That fucking parakeet did make me chuckle.

Love me some S'Mac! best Mac & Cheese in the East Village! Great post Marty!

@Kari: To mac and cheese!

@"Boris:" Glad you got a chuckle out of the birdie, Daddio!

@East Village Eats: Thanks! Hey have you got a recommendation for Cheeseburger Saturday Night?

June 5, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

I never want to order mac & cheese at a restaurant because it's so easy to make at home, but I'm always jealous when someone else orders it and looks so freaking good!

nice variation on CSN...even if it wasn't a "real cheeseburger" i sorta feel it deserved a wimpy rating...looked damn good to me and the price is ivitin' as well...got a few "pet" bird stories...ah maybe a different time...

1996: I'm going down to the East Village to score some Smack.

2011: I'm going down to the East Village to score some S'Mac.

2026: I for one am going down to the East Village to welcome our new alien overlords. (Simpsons joke Marty, you won't get it)

Now it's Mac&Cheese? Is nothing sacred? Also Mr. Cabbie, Steven Spielberg and Peter Benchley would like to have a word with you. Also, we are not a real New Yorker, we are based in Illinois. (Not Peoria)

@Gene: Ingredients....macaroni pasta, butter, milk, flour, cheese.....per serve, would cost around $2 to make. I made Mac and Cheese at work last week....I made enough for about 25 serves...ready and labeled in under 20 mins....selling price was $6.50

@MAD: I love Mac and Cheese however mine didn't turn out as amazing as S'MAC. I too am a fan of the Kraft cheezy Mac. Horrible, tasty stuff. I usually put 3 packets in one bowl and I'm anyone's.

Say CHEEEESE!

That mac does look good. I'd completely forgotten about Suzi Quatro! Whatever happened to her?

June 5, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteronemorefoldedsunset

Just wait until I get to turn our old fridge into a beer fridge-it will make yours look sad-we have to buy beer by the case in good ol PA. I thought the idea of cheeseburger mac n cheese sounded gross but that looked delish!

June 5, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBritta

@SuzRocks: You'd want to order this, it's really good!

@jrr: Anytime you get a meal for under seven bucks in Manhattan is a good deal, especially one as good as this. Great quote, as always!

@Clacky: I overload on the Kraft Mac and Cheese too! Great minds cheese alike!

@onemorefoldedsunset: I think Suzi Quatro is still out there grinding it out on the oldies circuit.

@Britta: Looking forward to seeing your beer fridge, send a photo when it's done!

The S'MAC people are in my zip code, yet I've never been there. This is about to change. Love that first picture of the metal skillet. Your refrigerator is improving as well. You're definitely on the right track. I never manage to keep mine stocked, somehow those cans just keep disappearing.

June 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterUncle Waltie

I see the Red Stripe in your fridge..party on mon. Clean fridge!! I think the beefy mac and cheese is cool for cheeseburger night.

June 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

Mmmm...cheese. I think I may have to visit this place next time I tie one on far too early in the day. Also, the biggest mark-up in restaurant world is soda pop. Next time you pay $2.50 for a Coca-Cola, remember that it's costing the establishment somewheres around $0.04 a glass. Maybe $0.07 if you get it to-go.

June 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBiff

@Kraft: Yes, nothing is sacred here.

@csp: Simpsons joke: Whoosh, right over my head.

@Uncle Waltie: Check out S'MAC, decent place to eat and they have beer now!

@Melanie: Party on, indeed!

@Biff: Fast food places make most of their money on the soft drinks. Astute observation!

June 6, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

@Marty: I put the "ass" in astute!

June 6, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBiff

@Biff: Ha ha ha! You still gots it Bifferoonie!

One of the best things from The Berkeley Institute n/k/a Berkeley Carroll School was the mac and cheese for lunch. Best I have ever eaten and none compares. It had a crust and just the right amount of yellow/orange cheese. YUM.
