First off I want to put up a link to the latest update from the Chillmaster Dance Party. Goggla posted her photos and a video! Check it out here: The Gog Log.

Okay, it’s Tuesday night, which means it’s the night I go out in search of the ever-elusive glass swizzle stick. The only problem this week is that I’m working the dayshift, so I have to do this shit when it’s still light out, so I can get home and get to sleep to get into work on time. I’ve decided to try the Gramercy Tavern, because it’s an upscale place, they must use swizzle sticks and it’s on my way home. So it’s off we go.

I really hate doing this in the daylight. Plus I was running late this morning, so I haven't showered today and haven't shaved since Sunday and I kind of look and smell like a hobo. I love the word, "hobo!"

Uh, oh, walking by this pile very quickly! Three words: Cardboard Box Man!

I love this vintage Squirt sign in Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop window!

Fuck!

Spinal Tap moment alert!

Oh if only this sign was located in a liquor store!

Jesus, this sign is scarier than the Cardboard Box Man!

Christ, here I am at the Gramercy Tavern and it's filled to the brim with after work people. I really miss my late night crowd. I can't drink in here.

And so it's home I go. This isn't a double gin and tonic, but those are real swizzle sticks, donated by "Boris!" Read more about them in the bonus section below! Goodnight everybody and I'll see you tomorrow in the stinking daylight once again. May this week pass quickly!

Five Things I Hate About The Sunshine
It’s too bright.
It comes out in the daytime.
And I hate the daytime.
It’s a terrible Jonathan Edwards song.
It’s an even worse John Denver song.

My girlfriend's run off with my car,
And gone back to her ma and pa,
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.

Bonus Swizzle Sticks and buttons from “Boris!”
MAD in-house artist, “Boris” sent in two swizzle sticks that are really something special. They’re authentic swizzle sticks from the Chicago Playboy Club! “Boris’s” Dad was a member and this is from his private stash. Thanks to “Boris” for this and for the buttons below.

Here they are, authentic swizzle sticks from the Playboy Club!

Very cool and a great addition to the collection.

"Boris" also sent along these vintage buttons, they're all great, but this one...

Is the greatest! A genuine Jerry Lewis Telethon button! Too cool! My dad's name is Jerry, which makes me one of Jerry's Kids and I've always been pissed I haven't seen a dime from that goddamned telethon! Thanks to "Boris" for this great package!

And here's the whole swizzle stick collection...aaaahhhhh! He's everywhere!

Cool swizzlers from Boris! Loved your photo commentary in this one!

@AL: My theory.
Meanwhile at the Gramercy Tavern: Suit 1- "So I made a simple excel spreadsheet and converted it into a chart. Then I imported that chart into Word and added some inane notes. Then I exported the Word document into a Powerpoint presentation and resized it. I then saved the presentation as a .pps file and uploaded it to our intranet server. If I wanted to, I could electronically publish the slideshow from remote. More importantly, now management can view it directly wireless via their smartphones. Shit was so cash!"

What a great video from the Chillmaster's Party!!!
Thanks to Goggla!

Glad the goods got there without damage.
I had that Jerry button for a few decades and it's soon to be a collector's item.
Harlow's was the legendary club I lived at...and it's subsequent two take overs.
I seemed to go along with the purchases.
I did the Ads/promo for them, later Pips and it ended it's "life" around late1986 as Haywires.
All in "Beautiful" Burbank, IL (across Cicero Ave. was Chicago city limits)
Harlow's was proud of the fact they "Overpoured" and I loved it too.
Great times, watched great bands come through that club (Cheap Trick in their club days etc.)
and Coke did "add a Smile" for a lot of those years for me as well.
Glad I survived.
Great times... some I can even remember.
Ha.

I'm impressed by the Playboy swizzle sticks, but that cardboard box with the face is scaring me...looks like something one might find lurking in the 13th Street Mystery Lot.

May 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterGoggla

@GENE: No we don't need them and I don't know why people spend there money at them here. That one has a local bodega right next door.

@Al: Your "High" school comment cracked me up! The reason I couldn't drink there is they were three deep at the bar and everyone appeared to be an asshole. So I just went home and drank giant cans of Budweiser.

@Barfly: Thanks and the swizzler credit goes to "Boris!"

@csp: You captured the mood in that room perfectly!

@"Boris:" Thanks to you for that great care package, Daddio! Great stuff and great history behind them, thanks for sharing!

@Goggla: Maybe it's the Monster's cousin! Great post at your blog today!

I think that orange girl must be related to Karen O. in some way.

Little lost for words today , I guess getting up 4 :30 AM to do moving stuff & organizing stuff to sell is taking it's tole on Me .

Cool vintage sign. I mean: who doesn’t enjoy a good squirt?

The after work crowd at The Gramercy Tavern looks like it’s filled with asshats preppy types whose names are: Chip, Muffy, Skip and Buffy.

Nice Sonny Boy clip!

@Biff: Maybe it's her sister, Patty Ofurniture.

@JasonHwang: As you can tell from the last two posts, I'm in the same boat!

@Harry: Good to see you back in the commenters corner! You're right about the crowd and that's one of my favorite lines from "Exile!"

@ Marty: I’ve been busier than a one armed monkey with two peckers. If I had a time machine, I’d go back to 1598 find William Shakespeare, and say to him: “Tell me this is Much Ado About Nothing?”, then kick him in the balls, twice.

Also, I’m on the verge of killing a few dozen Brit actors too. So, if you see a headline along the lines of: “American Technical Director Goes Berserk At The Globe Theatre London, 24 Dead” ; you’ll know what happened.

Cool Coke button, Kudos to Boris!

When Mrs. Spike was out of town recently I had a solo dinner at the Gramercy bar and actually had a great time, because everyone was really chatty and friendly (mostly other solo diners). But you do have to tell the bartenders you want a seat and it can take a little while before one is ready (quicker if you are on your own). I don't think I'd ever go back just to get a drink tho, even if they had amazing titanium swizzle sticks. But if you have time to eat, I'd suggest you give it a shot once (granted I'd leave too if I heard that conversation you did!!).

harry forgot kyle and todd...no offense if you are out there ...although i sorta doubt it...gramercy...upscale damn an understatement...me think that the mercy part of it's name is what i would use...mercy mercy when i saw the prices at this place i fell out of my chair...me thinks that csp has way too much free time...thanks and a toast goes out to "boris" (hope all those neat things are not just on loan)...goggla whata post...pure dynamite...(where the hell is jimmie walker when you need him?)...

I have sung in hobo jungles, and I have sung for the Rockefellers, and I am proud that I have never refused to sing for anybody.

@Harry: Ha ha ha! Let me know if you need us to take up a collection for bail money!

@Spike: It was happy hour and crowded like crazy in there. Maybe I'll try it on a Sunday evening in the off hours. Thanks for the tip!

@rr: No they are not a loan, a generous gift from "Boris!" And I agree about Goggla's post, I love the video, because the day is a bit of a blur! And be easy on csp, a Chinese birdie just told me it's his birthday today! Happy birthday, csp! Welcome to the old-timers club!

May 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

damn not sure what the ol' timer's club is...the way i add up dates most of MAD followers area litter of puppies that have experienced more than me in my sheltered life...

I know that when I grew up I was pretty sheltered, and didn't come to understand much about the world until I was in my really late teens and early twenties, and that process continues.

When I shy away from going for a beer right after work, that first photo you posted is pretty much precisely what I fear I will see when I walk into said establishment.

May 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterJAZ

@rr: The Old Timer's Club is something I joined a few years ago, I didn't ask to join it either!

@JAZ: It was a horrible crowd, but as I said to Spike, I'll give it a shot on a Sunday night. But I'll wait till I get a week with some decent overtime because it's pretty pricey in there! I've heard differrent views on the place, so we'll see.

May 25, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

@MAD: Thanks. Also, this club sucks.

@rr: I do have too much time on my hands; just be grateful I only typed out the heavily edited short version of that imaginary conversation.

Great new swizzle sticks!! And Sunny Afternoon is a classic. I grew up with dark, glowering grey skies, so the sunshine can get a bit intense. Good luck with the workweek!

May 25, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteronemorefoldedsunset

Here's a few things that grind my gears....

After Dark blogs in the daytime...
After work suits drinking anything other than beer...
Not being able to drink because of after work suits...
Cardboard box individuals who stole Marty's swizzle sticks and is now hustling them on the street.
Cardboard box individuals.

May 25, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterClacky.

@csp: It stays! I can be a real swizzle stick!

@onemorefoldedsunset: I knew you'd like the Kinks Klip!

@Clacky: I hear you on the grinding of the gears! I think I'm stuck here late, but at least I can do the blog in darkness!

May 26, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterkari

May 26, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

Ah! Gramercy Tavern is more frightening than cardboard box man.... yikes!

May 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterLindsay

@Lindsay: Maybe they're related!

May 26, 2011 | Registered CommenterMarty After Dark

You know, my youngest daughter freaks out any time the sunshine falls on her face when we're in the car - maybe you two both have a little vampire blood running in your veins.

Love, love, love the swizzle stix!

May 26, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterBritta

@Britta: People have called me a vampire for years! Maybe your daughter will be a nightshift worker!
