November 21, 2011

There’s tons of places to get pizza at in New York, but a lot of them have the same style of pizza and your options are a slice or a pie. One of my favorite pizza places is called Pie, a place that has a lot of different types of pizza and a unique ordering method where  you can get as big or small slice as you want and then they weigh your selections and you pay by the weight. I wonder if this was inspired by The Band?

It's a nice night out, kind of warm for this time of year.

And here we are at Pie. There's a building awning in front of the place, so it's a little rough to get a good shot of the place.

There's tables in the front as you walk in.

Amber serves me up a beer and informs me that you can't take a picture of the pizzas in the glass case in the front.  She told me the owner doesn't allow it. I don't really get this rule, but I choose my pizza selections and head to the back while they're warmed up in the oven.

Here's tables opposite the pizza case that you can't take a picture of. Yes, I'm obsessing over the fact that you can't take a picture of the pizza case and its kind of destroyed my night.

There's a communal table in the back where I decide to sit and stew about not being able to take a picture of the pizza case in all its glory.

And here's my pizza selections from the glass case I couldn't take a picture of. Yes, this will bug me all night long.

Fire! Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark. Hopefully then I'll quit obsessing over why I couldn't take a photo of the pizzas in the glass case.

I didn't know pizza pies were covered by The Privacy Act of 1974 ?

Not being able to take a picture of pizza? The owner there is nuts. Free publicity. I would obsess over that rule also. The song's "The Weight", "Badge" and "For what its worth" are just a few songs that the title is never mentioned in it. A little trivia for a Monday.

Looks like some of your slices were a little over done, Marty. Glad you included 'The Weight' by The Band in today's post...it was the first song I ever learned to play on my very first second hand pawnshop guitar....Just me sitting all alone in my bedroom with a Mel Bay illustrated book of guitar chords, struggling to make my fingers make the chord changes and driving my sister the pianist in the next room over batshit yelling; "Why don't you LEARN how to play that fucking thing?"....

Your surprise link was intriguing. I needed to find out more about this women pleasing Mr. Pizza and after some research, began a wonderful journey of discovery.

@GENE: rr's going to be jealous of that quote, let's see if he can outdo it!

@csp: Ha ha ha! That's it! Where'd you find it? Only place in town with oblong pies.

@Al: I agree and still don't understand. Nice trivia you threw in there. Randy Scouse Git by the Monkees is another, I'll be thinking about this all day today!

@Jaws: I like the slices overdone, the pizza there is very good, but camera shy. It sounds like you grew up in a noisy household!

@csp: Great clip, thanks for sharing!

I've never really noticed Pie before (I think I may have tried it once, when they sold it by the inch), but now I'm bent on going over there and getting a picture. As I always say, shoot first, questions later.

Or rather, "POLO" .... I don't really hate Marco Pole ... I just have mild distain for him.

November 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterroadsidewonders

@Goggla: The pizza there is good, if you like thin crust pizza that can't be photographed in the case.

@roadsidewonders: Glad you liked the hashtag on Twitter, I always wonder if anyone reads them and I appreciate you noticing it! And I'll go ahead and admit it, I HATE Marco Pole!

I need a mr Pizza.
Pizza is a perfect food...
in fact anything called pie is perfect..
savory pie and sweet pie.. no such thing as bad pie..just a bad chef..

its an entendre too and i seem to obsess with entendres all week.. like you with glass cases...

pudding also.. savory pudding you eat with roast and sweet pudding you eat as dessert...black pudding which is really a sausage made of blood and plum pudding which is made with meat fat and booze. you cant have your pudding if you dont eat your meat..
i want a pie and pud party.. nothing but all kinds of pies and puddings.. yummy

Goggla--great--I want pizza now--a pie with pepperoni would do nicely. Seriously considering a pizza as part of Thanksgiving activities...may make boboli with sauce cheese mushrooms and pepperoni--YUM!!

November 21, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

@Gidgie: I've never had black pudding, but have always wondered what it tastes like, one of these days!

@Melanie: If you've never had pizza at PIe you should check it out, it's really good if you like thin crust pizza. Now I need to go Google boboli as I've never heard of it.

Glad you "followed the rules" and didn't take that photo! AHhahahahhahahahah

November 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commentermeleah rebeccah

I've been trying to rationalize the no photo rule, but I just can't seem to make any sense of it. I'll keep thinking. In the meantime, your selections looked tasty, but why does everyone insist on cutting pizza into squares these days? It's supposed to be pie cut! BRING BACK THE PIE CUT!

@Gidgie: Special Agent Cooper-"This must be where pies go when they die."

November 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commentercsp

@Meleah: What's weird is, they said I could take photos of everything inside, except for the glass case, kind of strange.

@Biff: They kind of have to there because you tell them how much you want and they cut it off, it would be tough to do with slices.

Puddings - yes!! Black pudding sounds scary but is quite delicious. Spanish blood sausage good too. Grew up on puddings - Yorkshire, Steak & Kidney,Treacle, Christmas (alcohol laden), Bread & Butter, Roly Poly etc. etc. But don't try Dead Man's Arm - a very bad pudding indeed.
Pie looks a bit desolate, but I hope you get back for those pictures. LOVE Goggla's CBM shots!

November 21, 2011 | Unregistered Commenteronemorefoldedsunset

holy cardboard...was there a CBM convention in town?,,, if so a toast to goggla for catchin' sum of it...one goes up to csp for the shot of flavored "skateboards" that MAD could not get (now whose jealous?)...have not been jealous since i saw "that" guy walkin' down the hall w/ "that" girl in the 9th grade or maybe there was a tinge of jealousy the first time i saw john c, holmes on the silver screen...

@onemorefoldedsunset: I can't believe "Dead Man's Arm" is a bad pudding, it sounds simply delicious!

@rr: "flavored "skateboards"" Ha ha ha! Great description of the pizza's in there! And that quote is perfect and all too true!
